Tips and Tricks
Confetti comes in tons of
shapes, colors, sizes, etc. I think it looks nicer than
punches cut from regular cardstock. It's heavier and usually
shiny metallic colors.
When punching out and adhering
small pieces of paper, I used to get glue everywhere except
on the punched shape. Now I put a strip of double-sided tape
on the paper before I punch the shape. I just punch where
the tape is and voila the punch has adhesive on the back
For a stiff punch, I learned if
you punch through wax paper a few times, it lubricates the
punch and is easier to use!
Punchies are the shaped pieces
of paper that come out of your punch. Many scrapbookers like
to have an assortment of punchies available at all times
which they store in film canisters or ZipLoc snack bags.
Punches can be expensive and often you only need a few
punchies to finish a layout.
For dull, overused punches, I
learned if you punch through tin foil a few times, the punch
is as good as new!
Get a set of square punches in
varying sizes and watch in amazement at all of their uses!
Use layered squares as a base for sticker letters or sticker
images. Turn them and you have diamonds to use in the same
way. Slice them in half and you have triangles.
If you have extra photos of
events, you can cut off pieces of those pictures to be used
as enhancements on pages. Pictures that have textured
backgrounds (rocks, trees, water, etc.) can add color to a
page while matching the pictures on the page. A snowflake
punch and a picture with snow in the background can be used
to make snowflakes for page enhancements, etc.
Try useing photographs of people
taken way in the distance (without a zoom lens) to do the
lettering for a title. Just use an extra large lettering
template and a lightbox, center those teeny tiny people in
the letters, trace, and cut.
