Tips and Tricks
slice up dry corks (that you get
in wine bottles) for cork circles that are so popular now.
Look at your local dollar store
for deal on scrapbooking supplies, you would not think it
would be a good place but they have some great stuff. Such
as stickers, paper, stamps, metal mini frames.
If you use a tab roller, instead
of rolling on the tabs, use it as a dispenser and put the
tabs only where it's needed. (i.e., one on each corner and
along the edge of a photo...)
I'm an 8.5 x 11 scrapper but
most pp packs come in 12x12. But I like to save paper so
when I do a 2 page lo I use only one 12x12 sheet of pp.
There are two ways. Cut the 12x12 into 2 - 11x6 sheets. I
then take matching cs and cut that into 2 - 11x3. I tear the
edge of this and then use double-sided mounting squares to
attach it to the 11x6 piece of paper. Another way I do this
is to cut the 12x12 to 12x11. Then I make an "L" shape by
measuring 5.5 inches down (from the 11 inch side) and 3.5
inches from the outside edge to the middle (from the 12 inch
side). I then take 5.5x6 inch matching cs, tear the edges
and fill the "holes".
When you finish your sheet of
pop dots, don't throw out that sheet! Cut it up and use
those pieces. No one sees the back of what you're attaching
it to, so who cares if it's not a perfect circle.
Use your cards when looking for
quotes, saying, or for journaling, that way you can always
keep your cards and they won't just be stacked up somewhere.
use what you have, do at least 3
Lay Outs with items you already have before you go buy
anything .... it is hard, but you will be really proud...
and accomplished, because u will really want something, so
you will get 3 Lay Outs done real quick (more productive!!)
don't bring checkbook/credit
cards to crops!!!! this will kill you!!! just bring as much
cash as you are able to spend... just telling yourself you
can spend $10.
write down all you spend.... at
the end of the month/week look at it and see what you spent
too much on/didn't really need... and try to not do that
next time.
use a three pack of clear hard
plastic storage cases meant for decks of playing cards
sports cards for storing embellishments. also use the hard
plastic hinged case that paper clips, thumb tacks, sick
pins, and fasteners come in.
dont spend money at a scrapbook
store to get a sanding block try and get a sanding block
nail file. They are the same thing and much cheaper.
Always try to keep a running
list of all the pages that you need to scrap. While you are
out shopping you can review the list and buy the supplies
needed. Also put down items you ran out of such as glue.
save all the scraps from
patterned papers. Helps you to mix and match different
colors and textures together on your pages.
I keep everything. If I cannot
find a use my children sure can. Those 2 left over stickers
may not be able to be used on my scrapbook page. Yet the
children do not mind mixing and match in odd combos, or use
to make that perfect card. Even small pieces of paper are
saved for making new paper. I stop and examine all my waist
before throwing in the trash.
Scrabble and monopoly games The
letter tiles, or money can be added as embellishments, also
the instructions might make a good frame or background if
the game was a family favorite. Get from a thrift store so
you don't ruin your own.
