| Journaling Scrapbooking
Tips and Tricks
Use journaling to add to your
embellishments. Not enough room to journal because there is
'something else' in the space you need? Sometimes what I do
is use my journaling to accent a sticker or die cut. Such as
the trail of a butterfly just write out your journal to look
like the path the butterfly flew. Also journal for the
strings on balloons or a kite.
It's sometimes hard to recall
event or trip details if you are scrapping the layouts much
later. To help remember details more clearly, At the end of
the day, answer these questions.
- Who did I spend
time with today?
- Where did we go?
- What were the
day's activities?
- Did someone say
something funny or meaningful?
- How was the
weather?
- What were my
feelings about the day?
When it's time to

What to journal. always
answer the following questions when looking at a
photo:
- WHY - did I take
this photo?
- WHERE - did I take
this photo?
- WHEN - did I take
this photo?
- WHO - is in the
photos?
- WHAT - is
happening in the photo?
Many beginning
scrapbookers don't include journaling on their
pages. While the "gallery" style of page (one large
photo, a title, beautiful accents, and nothing else)
is gorgeous, and can be very effective for album
title pages, it's not always the best approach for
your everyday pages. Save a critical error most
scrapbookers make and write down the name of people
in photos and be sure to record at l the basics,
every time. Not only for your own memories but so
your children and other people who view your books.
When you get the photos
back from the developer, I place the notebook pages
in the photo envelope. This will make scrapbooking
and journaling easy.
Journaling is so
important in scrapbooking. It tells our life story
to generations to come. Use your creativity to
display your journaling in a fun way. Use
embellishments to replace letters or words.
Practice your
handwriting to be sure you put your best hand
forward, have the right tools for the job. The
absolute basics are:
- number 2 pencil
- straightedge or
ruler
- ink pen of your
choice
- good eraser; I
prefer the white artgum erasers
- You'll also want a
good working space. I like working on a flat
tabletop, seated in a chair, with space to spread
out.
Write it out in pencil
first. Use your ruler to make "lined" paper on your
layout. Write out your text lightly in pencil. You
can adjust your journaling as needed easily at this
point. The more you write the better you will like
what you see. I have notice the more I write even on
a store list towards the end is the best penmanship
I have so write and practice before you write on you
journal card or do a few and pick the best one. |
