Tips and Tricks
If you do not that eyelets try
and make some. This will also work for shaped eyelets if you
have small shaped punches. To make a realistic looking
"eyelet" on a tag, punch a small circle and place it where
you want your "eyelet". Glue it to the tag and then punch a
hole through the circle and tag together.
One important thing to remember
those who are new to eyelets . Make sure you are on a flat
hard surface. You never want to be on a cushioned surface.
You tools will never go through the papers/pictures you are
working with.
When using your Crop A Dile, if
you want to punch several holes in a row you can move up the
metal pieces that are under the 1/8 and 3/16 dials. This
lifts the lever so that you can rest your item on it and
make a straight line of punches.
Elements on a page that fall in
odd numbers seem to be more pleasing to the eye. Such as
three or an odd number of tags, brads/eyelets, or
embellishments arranged on the layout. Three or and odd
number colors on a page also bring balance to a page.
Can't afford eyelet setting
tools. Instead of punching a hole, use an Xacto type knife
to cut an x about the size of the eyelet. Put the eyelet
through the x by inserting it, of course, through the front
of the paper so the x pushes to the back. Turn your creation
over. Find a Phillips head screwdriver that just the tip,
but not the rest of the screwdriver part, fits in the eyelet
hole. Use a regular hammer, or a lightweight hammer to hit
top of screwdriver. If only part of the eyelet set, take
screwdriver out and reinsert it so the outer edges of the
screwdriver bit goes against the sides that have not set
yet. Hit it. Take screwdriver out and hit the eyelet itself
a few times....works like a charm!
Never set eyelets on a glass
cutting matt or board. It will crack.
Recycling for eyelet storage,
Brads, beads and other little things I recycle the condiment
cups that we get from our neighborhood fast food
restaurants. They have covers and are see through.
Threading fiber through and
eyelet. Take a short piece of wire (5" or so) and bend about
the top 1" or so down so that it's parallel with itself. It
looks sort of like a needle or a hook. Then, just put the
fiber in the loop of the wire, and pull the wire through the
eyelet.
use washers with your eyelets if
you want to any movement on your page such as attaching
charms or letter charms that you want to move.
Make a page with magic mesh and
put some eyelets through the holes. Then "laced" the eyelets
with ribbon.
Use an old/cheap cutting boards
to set eyelets. Look for self healing ones.
