Adhesives Scrapbooking Tips and Tricks

Any adhesive used to mount photos and accessories must be acid-free. Glue Dots, Memory Zots, Mounting Squares, Adhesive Foam and Liquid Glue, and some double stick tape are acid free and photo safe.

Stop adhesive showing on your work, if you have used glue & a little bit of it is showing, such as on a puch or a letter block, dab up as much of it up as you can & then take a q-tip & dip it in the same color chalk as your paper, the chalk will cover up the little shiny spot the glue leaves on your paper. If you do not have or use chalks try a white eraser. (be careful not to use a pencil eraser it might leave pink marks) Always use on a test area.

To glue Fibers try placing liquid glue directly on the paper or where ever you are placing your fiber, let it sit for a few minutes, before placing the fiber on the glue. When it starts to dry it will get tacky, place your fibers on top, pressing gently. That way you don't get any runny mess, and the glue does not come through the fibers.

Hot Glue Dots. the next time you have your glue gun on, take an extra minute or so and squeeze out some dots of glue onto a non-stick surface (such as a glass pie plate, a metal cookie sheet or aluminum foil). Let the dots cool and harden. Then peel the dots off and place them in an air tight container. The next time you need a dab of hot glue take out one of the dots, hold it in place with a toothpick and heat it with your heat tool. The glue will heat up and no time was wasted hulling out the glue gun and waiting for it to heat up for one dot.

Different types of adhesives:

  • Glue sticks: Colored glue sticks (supposed to dry clear) becareful because they dont always dry clear.
  • glue dots: these come in rolls. They are little dots of glue (several different sizes and thicknesses). The thicker ones add some dimension to your layout.
  • photo splits: these come in little cardboard dispensers they are double sided, stick te exposed side down, then peel off the little blue paper backing, and then stick the item to the paper.
  • tape runners:. just roll the dispenser along the item that you are wanting to glue /stick down.
  • photo corners: little pieces that fit over the corner of your photo and have adhesive on the back.
  • xyron: a non-electric machine that the paper rolls through and it applies adhesive to the back like a sticker.
  • pop dots/foam dots: these are little pieces of foam with adhesives on both sides. You use it to raise items off of the page for dimension.
  • Metal glue: used to glue down metal charms
  • vellum tape: nice for adhering vellum without showing through.
  • Tacky tape; (or wacky tape) used for gluing down glitter, beads, sand, etc. comes in rolls and sheets
